10 Ways to Use Vinegar (besides salad!)

You have used it to dress your salad. You have used it to deep cleanse your hair. You have even used it to clean your floors. Now, with the help of Sophie Uliano tips from Hallmark’s Home & Family (and yours truly), find 10 other fabulous uses for vinegar (and at $1.50 per bottle – totally worth experimenting).

STEAM CLEAN YOUR MICROWAVE: Place a glass bowl filled with a solution of 1 cup white vinegar and 1 cup water inside, and microwave the mixture for five minutes on the highest setting. Once the bowl cools, dip a cloth or sponge into the liquid and use it to wipe away stains and splatters on the interior.

STOP BUG BITE ITCH: Pour a small amount of vinegar into the cap and dip either a cotton ball or q-tip until soaked. Dab that bug bite for instant itch relief. Be sure to NOT put the remaining liquid from the cap back into the vinegar bottle. Rinse and clean thoroughly before affixing cap back.

DETARNISHING SILVER JEWELRY: Place jewelry in a deep baking dish lined with foil. Add 2 tbsp baking soda, 2 tbsp white vinegar. Cover with boiling water. Soak for a couple of minutes. Remove and then polish. (DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF ITEM HAS STONES, JEWELS etc.)

REMOVE LIME DEPOSITS: Add white vinegar to your steam iron, tea kettle and coffee maker (small, drip) to remove built up lime deposits. Leave overnight; cleans & removes mold.

KEEP CUT FLOWERS FRESH: Mix 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons sugar with the vase water before adding the flowers. Change water solution every few days.

WEEDS NO MORE: Kill weeds and grass growing in unwanted places by pouring full-strength white distilled vinegar on them. Especially effective in crevices and cracks of walkways and driveways.

USE IN PLACE OF A DEODORANT: just spritz apple cider vinegar directly onto your underarms – will prevent deodorant stains on clothes too.

TO STOP HICCUPS: 2 tsps of apple cider vinegar in one glass of warm water. Drink from other side of the glass and/or upside down).

BUGS BE GONE: Bounce ants from your home by spraying undiluted white distilled vinegar outside doorways and windowsills, around appliances and wherever you find the pests coming in. Get rid of fruit flies by setting out a tiny dish of undiluted white distilled vinegar.

PUPPY PROBLEMS: Clean up pet accidents by patting the area first with paper towels or wee wee pads (try and soak up as much of the wetness as possible). Then add a white distilled vinegar-and-water solution – 1:1. Blot again until it is almost dry. Then sprinkle baking soda over the area and let it dry. Vacuum up the residue the next day.
